Has the evolution of technology such as cellphones, internet and social media crippled our youth?. Well this is a viral question, but for me, A lot of focus is drawn onto the youth without any regarding as to who raised them. Kids didn't create technology nor did they make it accessible to themselves.
On the Effect: Everything have pros and cons, but i think in this case technology really has been affecting the youth negatively. First, is the influence from social media, today children are learning things from sites, they even watch inappropriate videos at a very young age. Second, family time is being limited because of technology. Third, industrial development has more harm than any of us can imagine not only in the mental status of the young but also in the condition of our environment.
Development in technology, does it really make life easier? I say that we wont be contented no matter what, we will always be expecting something, many of us always treat life as hard, and if you are given a chance to ask the older generations, our struggles are just the same.
Using social media Web sites is among the most common activity of today's children and adolescents. Any Web site that allows social interaction is considered a social media site, including social networking sites such as Facebook, MySpace, and Twitter; gaming sites and virtual worlds such as Club Penguin, Second Life, and the Sims; video sites such as YouTube; and blogs. Such sites offer today's youth a portal for entertainment and communication and have grown exponentially in recent years. For this reason, it is important that parents become aware of the nature of social media sites, given that not all of them are healthy environments for children and adolescents. Pediatricians are in a unique position to help families understand these sites and to encourage healthy use and urge parents to monitor for potential problems with cyberbullying, “Facebook depression,” sexting, and exposure to inappropriate content.
